What is Michelin SmartWear?
After 5 years of developments and tests, Michelin has now a viable tire wear monitoring and prediction solution, named SmartWear, that is sensor free, global, brand agnostic for any connected car. Throughout the development process, we aimed at covering as many usage as possible, using available data only.
SmartWear provides a single tread depth indirect physical measurement for each tire enabling a wear measurement within +/- 1 mm for OE tires.
It therefore does not require the knowledge of tire usage history neither initial tread depth value. Therefore, it naturally manages tire rotations and change with non-new tires (winter season).
The algorithm can be set-up to provide the tread depth monitoring at the most worn location to cover irregular wear.
Service continuity is ensured for non-homologated tires in aftersales, at the cost of a degradation of the wear measurement accuracy.
Only few connected vehicles data are needed to calibrate the model on each platform.

What is Michelin SmartLeak?
Existing TPMS system in market alerts drivers only when tire pressure deviates from normal value, without any diagnosis and remaining time prediction which could bring anxious to drivers
It provides air leak detection, remaining time prediction and thereby eliminating the owner's driving Safety anxiety caused by an accidental tire leak during the process.
